With freezing temperatures and a significant cold front forecasted to move across Texas this weekend, Medina Electric Cooperative and is prepared for any impact it could have on our service area. As always, Medina EC is prepared to respond to any outages.

ERCOT Weather Watch in Effect

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued a Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS) Weather Watch effective Saturday, Jan. 24, through Tuesday, Jan. 27.

While ERCOT forecasts higher electrical demand due to the cold, grid conditions are currently expected to be normal. A Weather Watch is an advance notification to the public that significant weather is approaching.

How to Prepare: The Four P’s

We encourage all members to take time to prepare their homes and families for the sub-freezing temperatures. Remember to protect the Four P’s:

  • People: Check on neighbors and the elderly. Ensure you have warm clothing and blankets.

  • Pets: Bring outdoor animals inside or provide adequate warm shelter.

  • Pipes: Wrap exposed outdoor pipes and allow indoor faucets to drip to prevent freezing.

  • Plants: Move potted plants indoors and cover sensitive outdoor vegetation.
