Scholarships

$607,500 in Scholarships Awarded Since 2000

Apply Here

As part of our commitment to support the education of the members we serve, Medina EC awards scholarships to members who have a high school senior graduating or are adults pursuing higher education. The number and amount of scholarships vary annually.

Since scholarships were first awarded in 2000, Medina EC has awarded $607,500 for higher education to 423* members. The program is funded by unclaimed capital credits. When capital credits remain unclaimed for three years, they are escheated back to the State of Texas. The state can then give a portion of that money back to the cooperative, which they have done in the past. These funds are used to fund the scholarship program, energy efficiency rebates and area economic development activities.

For 2021, the board approved awarding twenty $1,000 scholarships. Four of those will be for adults pursuing higher education and sixteen for high school seniors. Applications are due by March 5 at 11:59 p.m.
