Medina Electric Cooperative presented the American Red Cross – Hill Country Chapter with a $10,000 donation on Wednesday, May 12. The Hill Country Chapter has been helping Medina County residents with disaster relief after being impacted by the damaging storms on April 28.

The Hill Country Chapter volunteers arrived Thursday morning, within less than 18 hours of the storm, and began distributing clean up kits, tarps and make ready meals to families in D’Hanis and Hondo. They have assessed more than 600 homes in the community and have provided alternative housing arrangements for many who do not have insurance or whose home is no longer livable.

Concern For Community is one of Medina EC’s main Cooperative Principles. “After seeing the extensive damage suffered by so many of our Medina County neighbors, Medina EC wanted help. The American Red Cross has the resources and manpower to help the most people, and this donation was the best option to support their efforts here,” said CEO Mark Rollans.
