Medina EC crews, contractors and our power suppliers are still working to repair the damage caused by last night’s storms.
We recognize much of the news below is not what members who are without power want to hear and it is not the news we want to give, but it is reality. We know this is a very difficult situation and we recognize how inconvenient it is. This morning as of 4 am, 65% of members in Medina County were without power. As of 5pm today that number is down to 25%. Crews have made significant progress but there is significant work remaining; they will continue to until every member has power.
Restoration Estimates: Please note - these are only estimates and can change. We will post significant updates when we receive them.
If you do not have power by 8 pm tonight, Thursday, you should assume you will not have power through noon tomorrow. A small number of servicemen will be working overnight but work is slower in the dark. Some members will get power during the nighttime hours but it is not possible for us to give exact locations that will be restored.
- Castroville, Rio Medina and Dunlay – These areas have extensive damage from transmission poles down. For members in the Castroville area, primarily the New Alsatian and Star Oaks, they will see cycling power where power will come on for 2 hours and off for 2 hours. These members with emails on file have been notified directly. This cycle will continue until all necessary repairs are made; at this time we cannot say when this will be done. Members in the Rio Medina and Dunlay area are being impacted by that same issue but there are additional complications that make getting electricity to them difficult. These areas will likely be without power through Friday, since there are multiple transmission poles that have to be replaced near the train tracks. These members have received an email also.
- D’Hanis, Natalia and Devine – The bulk of power has been restored in these areas. There are about 250 meters still without power across all three communities. Those are individual outages and linemen are working on restoring them, but it is a slow process visiting each individual location and most of those members can expect to be without power overnight and through noon tomorrow.
- Hondo – As of 4 pm, our power supplier has made all repairs to get power to the substation. Now, our crews will begin restoring power to small groups of members as they identify additional damage. This will be a time-consuming process for the area and we do not have a final restoration time. If you are in this area and do not have power by 8 pm, you should expect to be without power overnight and through noon tomorrow.
As our crews reach the 24 hour working mark, we are rotating crew members so that all power restoration continues to take place safely for our members and our staff.
Our next update will be around 10 a.m. Friday. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we all navigate the extensive damage these storms brought to our area.
