As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Medina Electric Cooperative is run by a board of directors elected by the membership. Medina EC has nine board members—three per voting district, who serve three-year terms. Each year, a seat in each of our three voting districts is available for election. The nomination period for board candidates opened in January and petitions were due March 1.

This year, only Voting District 1 had a contested race. The election was open from August 20 through September 20. The results of the election were announced at the cooperative’s 85th Annual Membership Meeting held in Uvalde on Saturday, September 28. The results were as follows:

  • Michael “Mickey” Allen Holzhaus – 1,468 votes
  • Welquis R. Lopez, Sr. – 577 votes

During the nomination period of the 2024 election, our incumbent director from Voting District 3—Mr. J.L. Gonzalez of Laredo—ran unopposed. In Voting District 2, only one member ran for the open seat—Mr. James Crawford of Uvalde. Per the bylaws, Mr. Gonzalez and Mr. Crawford were automatically re-elected and elected, respectively, by the certification committee at the April board meeting.
