About Medina Electric Cooperative

Our Story

historical photo from one of the original MEC annual meetings

In November 1938, Medina Electric Cooperative started out of the need to bring electricity to our rural area when big investor-owned utilities would not. People in our small towns knew that electricity would be beneficial to farms, homes and businesses, and began going door to door to sign members up. They paid $5 to join the cooperative, with the hope that electricity would soon be available.

Reporting Outages

If you need to report an outage, you can do so by using SmartHub or calling 1-866-632-3532 and choosing option 2.

During a power outage, we will send outage alerts through text and email to members who have verified their contact methods through SmartHub. Learn more about those alerts at MedinaEC.org/Outage-Alerts. You can follow outage updates on our outage map at MedinaEC.org/Outages.

Consumer Analytics

With this feature, residential members will gain a deeper understanding of energy usage, specifically pinpointing which appliances are driving up electric bills and by approximately how much. Armed with this personalized information, you will have increased opportunities to make informed decisions regarding your electricity usage, potentially leading to energy and cost savings on monthly bills.

Be sure to complete your home profile to ensure the most accurate data. It could take up to four months for new member data to populate.
