Medina Electric Cooperative presented the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country with a $20,000 donation to benefit the Uvalde Forever Fund.  The gift will go back to support the Uvalde community following the recent tragedy at Robb Elementary. The Uvalde Forever Fund will raise, manage and distribute grants for long-term community benefit—such as a community center, youth programs and mental health resources—but can also offer short-term solutions.

“Uvalde is home to many of our employees and members,” said Trey Grebe, Medina EC’s CEO. “As a co-op family, we continue to grieve and mourn with our Uvalde community.” Kenneth White, Medina EC board president, added, “As this community works towards long-term healing, Medina EC will be honored to have a part in that effort to see Uvalde rise above this event.”

Concern For Community is one of the 7 Cooperative Principles that structures Medina EC’s business model. Cooperatives, like Medina EC, work to support and empower the communities they serve; and supporting the Uvalde Forever Fund is just one way of doing that.

The donation was made possible through the members of Medina EC, and through CoBank’s Sharing Success charitable contribution program. CoBank, a national cooperative bank, is one of Medina EC’s financial partners. Through the Sharing Success program, CoBank matched a $10,000 donation that Medina EC made to a nonprofit organization in their 17-county service area, for a total contribution of $20,000.
