August: Work Locations & Updates

Maintaining over 9,000 miles of line and 160,000 power poles is no easy job. In addition to daily jobs across our service area, here is a list of areas where you can expect to see Medina EC contractors and crews frequently during August.

Phone System Maintenance, 7/31 4-5PM

We will be performing maintenance on our phone system from 4 to 5 pm today, July 31. During that time, you can reach us at 1-866-632-3532 but it may take our representatives longer to answer your call than normal. If it is not an emergency situation or a power outage, you might consider calling outside of this time frame. We appreciate your patience and understanding in advance.

They have been taken for medical treatment; at this time their injuries are not life-threatening. We will share more details as they are available.

Summer Grid Stress and Conservation

In March, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas already indicated that they expected tight reserves at the start of this summer.

Use SmartHub To Manage Your Account

SmartHub (formerly called My Account) can be used to manage your electric account. Once logged in, you can pay your bill, report outages, view your historical electric use and the daily costs, compare weather data from day to day and manage your account settings. You can also download the SmartHub application for your mobile device. Just search SmartHub and select Medina Electric Cooperative as your provider.

Capital Credit Allocation Statements Mailed to Members

Anyone who was a member of Medina Electric Cooperative during 2013 will get a Capital Credit Allocation Statement in the mail at the end of June. This statement, which is being mailed June 26, shows the portion of capital credits that each member was allocated based on their electric purchases for 2013.

EPA Regs Could Raise Bills, Hamper Reliability

Join the Fight:

At the beginning of June, the EPA released regulations that go after existing power plants. This is in addition to a proposal they released last fall to limit carbon dioxide emissions from new coal and natural gas plants. The carbon capture technology needed to limit carbon dioxide looks good on paper, but it is not commercially viable and is estimated to be prohibitively expensive. This essentially bans new coal plants from being built and will likely shut-down many existing power plants.
