ERCOT Releases Grid Outlook for 2015 and Beyond

Seasonal forecasts released in March by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas - the grid operator for most of the state, including the area served by Medina EC - indicated there will be sufficient electric generation available to serve the expected demand requirements this summer.

Damage from 4/25 Storm Substantial

Damage from the storm that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 4/25, is substantial. Our crews have been out restoring outages since approximately 3 a.m. when the storm began. Some important things for our members to remember: 

Important Notice: Irrigation Members on VISPO Program

Irrigation members in Uvalde and Medina Counties that have enrolled in the Voluntary Irrigation Suspension Program (VISPO) offered through the Edwards Aquifer Authority need to notify the cooperative by May 31, 2015 if they want their meter disconnected and want to avoid annual charges. If the meter is not disconnected by May 31, accounts will be billed for all charges through December 31 per the rate schedule found in Medina Electric’s Tariff.

National Lineman Appreciation Day: April 13

America’s Electric Cooperatives designated the second Monday of April each year as National Lineman Appreciation Day. Because of that, on April 13, Medina EC will formally honor the hardworking people who often work in challenging conditions to keep the lights on.

April is Safe Digging Month

Underground utility lines like gas, water, sewer, cable TV, high-speed Internet, landline telephone and electric, provide the services Americans depend on for their basic everyday needs. They also present a hidden danger for DIYers and contractors who are digging. April is Safe Digging Month and a good time to remember the importance of making a call to 811 before you dig.

System Maintenance From 5 pm to Midnight 3/12: SmartHub and Bill Pay Unavailable

We will be performing maintenance and upgrade s on our system this evening from 5 p.m. to midnight. During this time, you will be unable to view use, report outages or pay your bill using SmartHub from our website or from the app. You will also be unable to pay your bill through our phone system. Outages can still be reported at 1-866-MEC-ELEC. We appreciate your patience.

Youth Tour Winners Announced

Congratulations to this year's Youth Tour winners. Chris Bell of Hondo, Jacie Henefey of D’Hanis and Justina Graff of Hondo will spend a week of their summer visiting Washington D.C. as part of the Government-in-Action Youth Tour.  They will join students from across the nation June 10-19 to take part in the action-packed and fun-filled tour. During the trip, students visit major landmarks, meet their elected officials, and learn about US and cooperative history.
