Report of Scammers Using Medina EC Name

On 5/15, Medina EC staff received a report of a scammer using Medina Electric's name. In this scam, the caller (who appeared to have an 830-741 number, which is the area code and prefix in Hondo where Medina EC's headquarters is located) told the individual that they had won a trip to Orlando with all expenses paid. Please know that while the cooperative would love to send every one of our members on a trip to Orlando, we cannot.

Medina Electric does not give away trips. We also do not call members, demand payments or threaten disconnection. If you get a call from someone claiming to be with Medina Electric and demanding money, please hang up and call us at 1-866-MEC-ELEC. We will verify if the call is legitimate or not.

Do not purchase prepaid cards at the direction of anyone. Medina EC does not need prepaid cards in order to keep your electricity on. Do not give your credit card number to anyone over the phone. Medina EC staff is actually not allowed to take that information over the phone or in person, and is not allowed to handle any member credit cards. This is for your protection and so that the cooperative is in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us at Info@MedinaEC.org or 1-866-MEC-ELEC.
