Changes To Load Management Program
IMPORTANT: Changes to Load Management Program Effective 6/21
Load management is initiated when the Electric Reliability Council of Texas may experience a peak in the consumption of power, and the program is designed to reduce wholesale power costs. ERCOT’s electric load, the rate of load change and weather trends are used to decide when load control will be implemented. Historically, participating members have experienced load control June through September, Monday-Friday, between 3-6 p.m.
Cooperative staff observed significant changes in the ERCOT market the week of June 12. As a result, effective on Wednesday, June 21, at 3 p.m.: Medina Electric must expand the load control timeframe to include weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) and may restore power after 6 p.m.
We apologize for the short notice. However, as of Monday, June 19, ERCOT is forecasting a June system peak on Thursday, June 22, and it is crucial that the change happen immediately. LM participants are being notified of the change by the method they elected for LM notifications (text or call), through a letter, and through our Facebook and Twitter pages.
Medina EC will continue to notify you by the method you elected (text message or phone call) with the start time of LM. During LM events, staff monitors the market and will restore power early if we are able to, based on market conditions. Please note: Because of how quickly conditions can change, it is possible that load could be shed with little or no notice. This would happen rarely, but it is a possibility. If the cooperative does not shed load when the ERCOT market peaks, it negates the cost savings we are able to offer irrigators in the program. If the program does not continue to save the cooperative money, we cannot pass savings on to the irrigators, and the future of the program could then be in jeopardy. These are all reasons the cooperative has decided to immediately make changes to the load management program.
